“Big” Thanks to our ‘80s Prom-Goers!!
The hair was feathered….and big! There were prom dresses with shoulder pads, neon legwarmers, and acid-washed jeans as far as the eye could see. And Members Only, the area’s cheesiest ‘80s cover band, kept the dance floor moving all night long. Big Brothers Big Sisters’ first annual “Biggest Little '80s Prom" was a BIG success, attracting nearly 200 friends and supporters and raising $25,000 to support mentoring services for local youth.
At the height of the evening’s festivities, Barrett Wragg – a Big Brother (pictured left) – and Jeanene Motsco were crowned as Prom King & Queen by our celebrity judges from WMAR-ABC2 News. Twenty teams competed fiercely for the title of ‘80s Trivia Challenge Champions, and all of our guests enjoyed vintage arcade games, drinks, and even “Pop Rocks”.
Special thanks to our “Totally Awesome Sponsor”, Mercantile Bank & Trust, for its stellar support of the event. Be sure to stay tuned for details on next year’s prom.
Rocking and Rolling with Bowling!
This spring, nearly 600 bowlers hit the lanes from Central Maryland and the Lower Eastern Shore to have some fun and raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Bowlers raised over $150,000 by getting their friends, family members, and neighbors to sponsor their participation in the 2007 Bowl for Kids’ Sake campaign. Kudos to Carley Thimmesch, a Big Sister, who led all individual bowlers with $2,747 in funds raised! And special thanks to our title sponsor, M&T Bank!
